Neil Wang—founder of Nook Decor and a mural artist based in Hong Kong. For over seven years, I’ve worked with clients and international brands, transforming blank walls into bold, immersive murals that tell a story. But as much as I loved seeing my works come to life, something always felt missing.

Even in the most beautifully designed interiors, where my murals became focal points, there was a gap. The space looked polished, but it didn’t feel alive. It lacked that extra layer of styling—the personal touches that make a space feel like home.

The Apartment That Sparked Nook Decor

The feeling followed me when I decided to tackle a tiny makeover for my apartment. So, in January this year, I did the whole Feng Shui thing. Spoiler: It wasn’t as lucky as I’d hoped. The Feng Shui guru told me the colors that supposedly worked for me were yellow, grey, red, beige, white, and purple. Not gonna lie. These colors were already splattered across my mural projects, but my home? Yeah, that was another story. Should I go subtle? Messy? Try for a Scandinavian-ish vibe? I was clueless.

I started like any newbie would—scrolling through Google, Pinterest, and Instagram, trying to find tiny apartment inspiration. But let’s be real—only people living in Hong Kong know what it’s like to live small. Mine’s just 50sqm. Yeah, that’s tiny.

But here’s the thing—it was perfect. My space was a blank canvas, just waiting to reflect me. After weeks of adding art and colors, repainting walls, and installing built-in cabinets and shelves, things were going well until I hit a wall…
